Can you introduce yourself and share your journey?
My name is Kenedid Mahamed, I am of Somali origin, and I have been a self-employed taxi driver since 2018. I started in Wallonia, with a Walloon taxi license. But when I moved to Brussels to live and work, everything changed.
With the reform of the taxi sector in 2021–2022, I needed a Brussels taxi license to operate here. I submitted my application immediately… and then waited for 3 years.
During those 3 years, things were very difficult. I took on odd jobs to make ends meet. I am here alone, without family. Honestly, it was a real struggle.
In August 2025, I finally obtained my license. But there was one condition: I had to buy a 100% electric vehicle within 6 months. Otherwise, I would lose everything.

How has your life changed since then?

Today, I am working again with platforms such as Uber. Customers are happy to get into a nice electric vehicle. And people around me can see the difference. They ask me what has changed.
So I simply tell them: I dared to ask. And it changed everything.
Any advice for other people?
Even when every door seems closed, you have to keep looking. I called everyone I could. And that is how I heard about brusoc by finance&invest.brussels.
Today, I feel relieved. And above all, I was able to restart my business and reclaim my place.
